Hazel Owens was born Hazel Lee Jones on November 28, 1926, in Dallas, Texas, to Bliss and Irene Jones. She passed away on March 1, 2020, in Burnet, Texas at age 93. Hazel grew up in Dallas, Texas. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1944. She attended the Texas State College for Women (now known as Texas Woman’s University) from 1944 -1946 while her high school sweetheart, William Leon Owens, served in the U.S. Army. Hazel and Leon married on January 1, 1947. Together they started the business Vickery Wholesale Greenhouse, which they operated until their retirement in 1986. Hazel and Leon were married for 58 years at the time of Leon’s death on December 17, 2004. Hazel was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister Dorothy Steger, and her son-in-law Earl Graham. She is survived by her three children and a son-in-law: Janis Graham of West Tawakoni, Texas; Janie Boney and her husband Dan Boney of Diana, Texas; and her son William Leon Owens, Jr. (Bill) of Kingsland, Texas. Also surviving her are grandchildren: Bryan Brunson, Leslie Sweeney, Jennifer and Philip Krampitz, Paul Owens, Lisa and Jon Simonson, Crystal and Myron Hall, Daniel and Kristin Boney, and Lauren and Luke Silverman; her great-grandchildren Kazz Scott, Hailie Briggs, Alyssa Lemoine Kyle Nelson, Lindsey Nelson, Riley Tippitt-Hall, Halsey Owens, Jonathan Simonson, David Brunson, Kylie Silverman, Austin Silverman, Owen Boney; and great-great-grandchildren Angel Briggs, Giovanni Briggs, and Anna Briggs; a sister-in-law Carolyn Owens, a niece and several nephews.

Visitation will be at Ingram Funeral Home, 1462 E Quinlan Parkway, Quinlan, Texas, on Thursday, March 5, from 600 – 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be at First United Method Church of Quinlan, 1555 E Quinlan Parkway, Quinlan, Texas on March 6 at 10:00am, followed by burial at Grove Hill Cemetery, 3920 Samuel Blvd, Dallas, Texas at 1:30pm.

Officiating at the service will be Mark Moore of First United Methodist Church in Quinlan, Texas, and Reverend Bryan Brunson. Pallbearers will be Daniel Boney, Paul Owens, Myron Hall, Luke Silverman, Jon Simonson and Kyle Nelson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Quinlan, 1555 E Quinlan Parkway, Quinlan, Texas 75474.
