Eva Lea Carter, 100, of Quinlan, passed away on September 2, 2020 in Quinlan. Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Quinlan I.O.O.F. Cemetery with Rev. Stacy Smith officiating. Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Carter was born August 2, 1920 in Carter’s Prairie, Hunt County, Texas to John W. (Duff) Vance and Mary Ellen Davis Vance. She married James Earl Carter, Sr. on October 30, 1948 in Quinlan. She taught 4th grade for 38 years for Quinlan ISD and was a member of Quinlan United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son, James Earl Carter, Jr. of Quinlan; brother, Charles Vance and wife, Mary Jane; granddaughter, Chastity Lewis; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters, Ruby Faye Reynolds and Katie Hurse.

Pallbearers will be Chip Vance, Chase Vance, Gary Hurse, Jeff Hurse, Jason Wrenn and Ben Wrenn.
