Clifton Johnson, 100, of Point, TX passed away on April 11, 2019 at his home. Mr. Johnson was born June 30, 1918 to Pearl & Henry Johnson in Rains County, TX. He graduated from Emory High School in 1935, East Texas State Teachers College, now Texas A&M of Commerce in 1938 and Texas A&M in 1942. Mr. Johnson joined the Air Force in 1942 and retired from Reserves in 1947 then taught school for about ten years. He married his sweetheart, Charlcie Ray, on June 15, 1944. They had two daughters, Judith Ann Avery and Jo Ellen Stringfellow.

Mr. Johnson has been a life long member of the Point United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Lone Oak for around 75 years. Mr. Johnson was the first Mayor of Point and helped organize many improvements in the City. He sat on many councils and committees to help improve the city after his tenure of Mayor. Mr. Johnson served as President of First State Bank for ten years and associated for many years with Lybrand Funeral Home. Mr. Johnson was the proud owner of  Ray Hardware Company for 68 years.

Survivors include his daughters, Judy Avery (husband, Ellis) and Jo Ellen Stringfellow (fiancé, Rusty Peele); grandson, Sleman “Ray: Abu Salim; two great-grandchildren, Sebastian Abu Salim & Elijah Abu Salim; sister, Glenna Bigham; several nieces and nephews and many loving friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings, Lennis Johnson and Truett Johnson.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM, Monday, April 15, 2019 at First Baptist of Point, the visitation will be held one hour prior. Burial will follow at Lone Star Cemetery in Point, TX.
